Botromagno

Bertromago Vignetti & Cantine was founded in 1991 when the D'Agostino family decided to turn the local Cantina Sociale into a “modern winery with ancient roots”. Botromagno are located in Puglia, in the southern heel of Italy, and brothers Beniamino and Alberto have worked together with a management team of viticultural and winemaking experts to produce wines made from indigenous grapes with innovative winemaking techniques, choosing clones that best reflect the unique terroirs of Puglia. They wanted to revive the ampelographic heritage of the region, which they have done by partnering with over 100 growers to source 10 native grape varieties from eight different vineyards: Falanghina, Fiano, Greco, Verdeca and Malvasia, for the whites, and Aglianico, Uva di Troia, Primitivo, Multepulciano and Negroamaro for the reds. They do also have some international vines with Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot but the focus is on the native grapes. The vineyards total more than 40 hectares and are planted between 420 and 650 metres above sea level on a variety of soils. Their range of award-winning wines are made in a modern wine cellar which was built in Gravina in 2004; it was the first in Puglia to win ISO 14001 Environment certification. Botromagno are now one of Puglia's finest wineries, producing traditional wines which reflect the land, each one telling a story of Puglia – history in every glass!
