About the Winery

Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte

Situated in the heart of Bordeaux's wine district, Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte is an enchanting vineyard estate, where centuries-old tradition is blended with the innovation of the modern winemaking world. Nestled within 78 hectares of grape-laden vineyards, it truly is a testament to the fine art of wine production.

Founded in 1365, the winery has been producing exquisite fine wines for almost seven centuries. The vineyard was acquired in 1990 by Florence and Daniel Cathiard, former French alpine ski champions, who fell under the spell of Haut Smith Lafitte’s terroir and shared a vision of reviving the grandeur of this historical vineyard. Inspired by their love for nature and winemaking, the Cathiards have dedicated themselves to sustainably cultivating the land and producing unique wines that are a harmonious reflection of the rich soils of Graves.

Château Smith Haut Lafitte’s best feature is, undoubtedly, its wine. Specialising in red and white varietals, every bottle captures the distinctive essence of the Pessac-Léognan appellation. The red wine Mcblend is a harmony of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc, while the white blend seduces the palate with intriguing notes of Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris, and Sémillon.

An integral part of the vineyard’s allure is its eco-friendly approach to winemaking. The Cathiards have done an impressive job in incorporating sustainable practices, such as horse ploughing, chicken-based recycling methods, and organic composting thereby greatly reducing the estate’s carbon footprint.

Aside from the estates' sprawling vineyard, the property also houses Les Sources de Caudalie, a hotel and a unique spa resort that offers wine and vine therapy treatments. It's an ideal getaway for wine lovers looking to indulge in the ultimate vinotherapy experience.

With its magical setting and fascinating history, the exceptional smith Haut Lafitte not only crafts incomparable wines but offers a memorable adventure into viticulture.
