A firm believer in Auguste Escoffier’s dictum to “keep it simple”, Peter is a passionate advocate of cooking and enjoying good food with simple, local and affordable ingredients, decrying the contemporary trend toward convenience foods and dining in front of the TV. He pleads with us to make time in our lives for preparing and cooking fresh food and, above all, that we re-learn the joy and satisfaction of sitting and eating together.

Food and Wine Matching Competition

Simply write a recipe to match any of the wines featured on the winedirect website, explaining why you think the food and wine go well together.
The writer of the very best recipe will win an evening’s fine dining for two at Michel Roux Jnr’s award winning, 2 Michelin star restaurant, Le Gavroche. Le Gavroche was the first UK restaurant to win 1, 2 and 3 Michelin stars and boasts the UK’s most extensive wine cellars of more than 60,000 bottles!
Michel Roux’s book Matching Food with Wine has become one of the most authoritative works on the subject of food and wine pairings, making a visit to Le Gavroche the very best prize for the winner of this competition!
All recipes approved by BBC Masterchef Peter Bayless will win a copy of his book My Father could only Boil Cornflakes, worth £20, and will be published on this site.
