Wine tasting notes

The first vintage of Syrah Gravas del Maipo 2007 is very elegant and presents great aromatic expression, marked by fruit such as blackberries, raspberries and cassis which blend well with chocolate, cedar and dry fruit notes and give the wine complexity and a unique style

eRobertParker.com #199 Feb 2012 - Jay Miller: The 2007 Gravas de Maipo was sourced from the Quinta de Maipo Vineyard in Maipo planted at 1300 feet of elevation in 1967. It is composed of 88% Syrah and 12% Cabernet Sauvignon aged for 18 months in 80% new French oak. Initially reticent, with coaxing it offers up notions of smoke, game, bacon, mineral, and blueberry in the style of a top Cote-Rotie from France's Rhone Valley. It is a suave, flavorful offering with superb concentration and length but in need of greater complexity to justify its exalted price. Perhaps that will come with another 5-6 years of cellaring.

Issue June 15, 2011 - Dense and structured, delivering lots of loam and roasted fig notes underneath the core of black currant, maduro tobacco and roasted espresso flavors. Long and powerful, but with refined tannins coursing through the finish. Contains 12 percent Cabernet Sauvignon. This is the debut release of this wine. Drink now through 2014. 200 cases made. –JM

May ' 12 by Josh Raynolds - Opaque ruby. Explosively perfumed bouquet evokes dark berry compote, vanilla, woodsmoke and incense, with slow-building florality and spiciness. Still quite youthful, offering intense black and blue fruit flavors that show impressive depth and energy. Closes on a sweet note, with lingering violet and cola notes and excellent persistence.

This high-priced Syrah is stately. The nose is ripe, minty and loaded with cassis and blackberry fruit. The palate displays extraction handled well, while accents of mint, spice, nutmeg and licorice work great with core black fruit flavors. Juicy, deep and focused. Contains 12% Cabernet Sauvignon; 150 cases made. — M.S. (9/1/2011)

This is the newest 'fine wine' in the line up, from a stony vineyard in the Maipo Valley. It is 88% Syrah and 12% Cabernet Sauvignon. Lovely nose, lots of lift and green aspects, lots of herbs. There's a touch of game and meaty, savoury aspect too. Delicious, the palate quite lean and sinewy, with plenty of dry extract and cherry skin grip and energy. Lovely, dry and savoury stuff of great purity.
