eRobertParker.com #209 Oct 2013 - Luis Gutierrez - Even better is the red wine they make from the same region, the 2012 Taganan Parcela Margalagua, which is sourced from a plot close to one hectare of very old vines, where white and red grapes are planted together. They only use the 14 or 15 varieties for this wine Listan Negro, Negramoll, Vijariego (aka Sumoll), Listan Rosado, Moscatel Negra, etc. The full clusters are foot-trodden in open fermenters with their wild yeasts. The extremely perfumed nose explodes with notes of flowers, honeycomb, red fruit, salty minerality and spices. This medium-bodied wine is extremely Atlantic, with very good acidity and length. It ends saline, which is not surprising, since the vines are a mere 200 meters from the sea. Only 600 bottles were produced in this first vintage. Superb! Drink it 2014-2020.

A co-fermented field blend of local grapes (Negramoll, Listan Negro, Baboso, Vijariego, Malvasia Negra, Moscatel Negro) from a volcanic, steep parcel facing north towards the Atlantic ocean at 250 meters elevation, with ungrafted 130 years old vines. Foot-stomped and fermented with whole-clusters in an open small vat. Raised for one year in a 500l used barrel with no racking. Bottled direct from the barrel. 600 bottles made.
Envinate (aka wine-yourself) is the brainchild of Laura Ramos, Jose Mart?nez, Roberto Santana and Alfonso Torrente, four friends who met while studying enology at the University of Miguel Hern?ndez in Alicante. Their work is currently focused in exploring the ancient, Atlantic-infused terru?os of Ribeira Sacra and the Canary Islands.
