Pinot Blanc / Pinot Bianco

Pinot Blanc/ Pinot Bianco is a white wine grape variety most closely associated with the Alsace region of France, but first cultivated in Burgundy, where it was often mistaken for Chardonnay. Wines labelled Bourgogne are in fact allowed to contain a proportion of Pinot Blanc.

In Italy, this variety is known as Pinot Bianco where it produces full bodied, distinctly aromatic wines.  In Germany and Austria, the variety is known as Weissburgunder.  In Austria the grape is highly celebrated and produces the illustrious Trockenbeerenauslese, the super rich botrytized infected wine, and is often blended with Welschriesling.
