Ribolla Nera is a black Italian wine grape that is also known as Schipettino, predominantly grown in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Northeast Italy. This variety is thought to have originated somewhere in between Prepotto and the Slovenian border.
When cultivated in Colli Orientali del Friuli Denominazione di origine controllata (DOC), deep wines are produced which are reminiscent of Rhône style blends, with aromas and flavours of violet, raspberry, and spice. This grape is sometimes used for semi- sparkling wine, due to its high acid and low alcohol level.
