Bodega Norton
The Norton winery was founded in 1885 when Edmund James Palmer Norton arrived in Mendoza during the building of the first railway that linked it with Chile. Impressed by the terroir, he planted some vines imported from France and started Argentina?s first winery south of the Mendoza river. Just over 100 years later, Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski acquired the winery, convinced by the Argentina?s potential as a source of quality wines around the world. Impressed by the beauty of the region and its vine growing conditions, he built the bodega up to where it is today, relying on traditional and local vineyard practices and investing heavily in state-of-the-art winery technology.Norton?s wines are made according to vine age. Past their thirtieth birthday, plantings can make the grade for Reserva, which is entirely matured in French barrels and offers extra depth and complexity. Privada used to be the estate?s private reserve, but is now Norton?s signature wine, as well as one of Argentina?s best-respected names, with fifty to eighty year old vines providing great concentration.
