Wine tasting notes

Bright, straw-yellow colour with a touch of ripe lemon. Intensely perfumed, with hints of fresh herbs, green apples, citrus fruit and grapefruit. It is long, rounded and full bodied on the palate, with a light petillance that gives the wine a vivacious, fresh finish.

Wine Advocate #188 Apr 2010 - Jay Miller - The 2009 vintage was outstanding in Rias Baixas so the 2009 Martin Codax Albarino has a bit more depth and concentration than has been the standard recently. It was aged sur lie for 4 months and displays a pleasant nose of spring flowers and lemon zest. Crisp on the palate with good balance and moderate length, it will drink nicely for another 1-2 years.

Tasted May 2012 - Has the apricot and peach but not the floral so much. Perhaps that’s a bit mean – this does as much as you could ask for Albariño at the (lower) price. (RH)

Issue Sept 30, 2011 - A crisp, juicy white, showing bright flavors of peach, rose, green almond and light herbs, with mouthwatering acidity that brings you back for another sip. Drink now. . –TM

Best Buy - A little leesy on the nose, but mostly it’s forward and lemony. The palate is citric and crisp as a whistle, with lemon, green apple and a secondary sweetness akin to pineapple. Focused and clean on the finish; chiseled and defined. — M.S. (11/1/2011)

Miscellaneous (2010)

Examiner.com - "The .. 2010 Martin Codax version is perfumed with pear, green apple, passion fruit, ginger, white flowers and something close to early morning rain. Exotic and fetching on the palate, it shows flavors of pear, guava, green melon and candied ginger with a minerally and sea salt like tanginess. As it warms in the glass, additional waxy notes emerge as well as floral hints and white pepper grindings. Well structured and exquisitely balanced, this is exemplary Albarino for a song. "

Vinification Notes

The wine was fermented in temperature controlled stainless steel vats and underwent full malolactic fermentation. It spent four months on its fine lees which gave a smooth, almost creamy texture to the wine. It was twice filtered prior to bottling.
