Decanter World Wine Awards (2006) Dusty, more complex tea. More evolved. Some complexity. Dark cherry fruit, still some drying tannins. A very pleasant extensio of ripe flavours. |
Description: It has a dense ruby red colour with hints of garnet red around the edge, aromas that alternate between fruity scents of blackberry, plum, sour cherry, and aromatic notes of mint, sweet spices with toasted undertones. It tastes smooth and slick, very coherent and balanced. The tannins are elegant and the lingering finish leaves a delicate aftertaste of ripe sour cherry and liquorice. Robert Parker: Wine Advocate # 175. Feb 2008. Reviewer : Antonio Galloni. The 2001 Taurasi Riserva Piano di Montevergine is off the charts. This dense Taurasi exudes the essence of jammy blueberries, blackberries, tar and smoke. Still incredibly primary, it is loaded with fruit and appears to be destined for a very long life. The tannins are well-integrated and the wine boasts phenomenal balance so there is every reason to believe it will only improve with time. Drink 2010 - 2016. Wine Spectator: Issue: Jul 31, 2006. Fresh, spicy plum, with notes of leather, flowers and minerals. Full-bodied and firm, yet very fresh, with a tight bead of fruit and mineral driving the long finish. Textbook Aglianico. Best after 2008. 6,000 cases made. –JS. Stephen Tanzer: Jul/Aug 05. By Ian D'Agata. Deep red. Mineral and tobacco accents interplay with ripe red cherry fruit. Well-balanced on the palate, with flavors of smoked plum and black cherry. Some noble rusticity and an element of minerality come through on the finish. The archetype of a good Taurasi, at first harder to appreciate than some of the softer, prettier, obviously fruity wines made in this area but truer to the terroir.
