Description: Re 2004. Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is dense with complex aromas of mineral, flowers and honey that builds the anticipation of the first taste. The palate is concentrated and smoky, with all the nose bursting onto the tongue elevating the complexity into a bath of flavors ranging from honey, to apricot to wet limestone. The balance of fruit, acid, and wood is perfectly executed and obvious in the mouth. This wine has a long life ahead of it in the bottle, and it continues to develop new aromas and flavors for several hours after opening the bottle.Robert Parker: Wine Advocate # 171. Jun 2007. Reviewer : David Schildknecht. Three of five barrels of Gambal’s 2005 Clos Vougeot are from a parcel high up and against the wall of the Clos and Grands Echezeaux (and three of five are new, too). Roasted meat and blackberry aromas lead into a bright, slightly tart, undeniably concentrated mouthful of black fruits backed by persistent, charred meatiness, alkaline mineral notes, and a chewy load of tannins. There is no doubt of this wine’s impressive depth and density, and probably a decade is needed to bring it into focus, so bear in mind that my scores reflect an estimation of the appeal it will hold immediately post-bottling.Jancis Robinson: Published : 17-Aug-2009. Light crimson. Slightly sweet but very serious. Oak a bit in evidence. Honestly, I'd rather have the Vosne! When to drink : 2012 to 2018.Wine Spectator: Issue: Web Only - 2009. A round fruity style, but there's no shortage of grip. Starts out with black cherry and black currant flavors setting the pace, before fine-grained tannins, spice and mineral flavors enter the mix. Fine length. Best from 2011 through 2022. 125 cases made. –BS.Allen Meadows, Burghound.com, 92-94 pts - "An unusually expressive nose for a young Clos de Vougeot mixes upper and lower register ripe fruit, earth, spice and subtle sauvage hints that dissolve into rich, full and serious but not particularly austere flavors that culminate in a hugely long, dusty and driving finish. There is real energy here and better still, it's focused and like the Ech, sufficiently firmly structured that a decade or more slumber in the cellar will be required. Drink: 2015+."Jamie Goode, wineanorak.com, 93 pts - "Tight, round nose of pure cherry fruit. The palate is super-elegant, with fresh cherry fruit and lovely acidity. Not a heavy wine, but has lots of presence and focus. Great purity: should age well."Vinification: Percentage of new oak used during aging : 60%
