Winery Profile: The history of Brane-Cantenac may be traced as far back as at least the early 18th Century, at which time it was in the ownership of the Gorce family, and was known as Chateau Gorce (and for a while as Chateau Gorce-Guy).... read more
Description: A dark, garnet colour with purple glints. Powerfully aromatic on the nose, showing notes of fruit (black cherries, blackberries, blackcurrants and raspberries) together with hints of oak (vanilla and roasted coffee beans) and spices. Once it has breathed in the glass, the wine displays its aromatic complexity and freshness (tobacco and menthol). Full and round on the entry to the palate, leading to a close-knit tannic structure. A particularly round and elegant wine displaying all the qualities of the 2000 vintage with a good, lingering finish. Robert Parker: Wine Advocate # 176. Apr 2008. Reviewer : Robert Parker. Rated, but no tasting note given. Jancis Robinson: Tasted 20 Oct 2009 - Good, firm crimson. Solid fragrance - quite appealing! Very light and little bit green but very nice balance and certainly fresh!
Wine Spectator: Issue: Web Only 2008 ( barrel tasting) - A bit lean, but some pleasant berry and spice character. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a medium finish. Stephen Tanzer: May/Jun 08. By Stephen Tanzer. Moderately saturated red-ruby. Raspberry, coffee, sexy spices and smoky torrefaction on the nose. Supple and fine-grained, in an easygoing, rather plump style. Offers a restrained sweetness and noteworthy elegance. Not hugely ripe but has class. Finishes with broad, dusty, slightly dry tannins. Chris Kissack, thewinedoctor.com 15+/20 - " Slightly hot and polished fruit here, although it seems to have a better character on the palate though. Here it is attractive, composed, quite perfumed, with an appropriate spicy grip. There is a real element of spice and pepper in the finish particularly, before the wine quickly fades into a fairly short finish. There are some positive elements here. From a tasting of 2007 Bordeaux at two years of age. 15+/20 (October 2009)" Vinification: 12 months in 30% new French oak.
