Description: 2007 has more of a classical profile than 2006, with a finely defined structure and great purity of fruit. The team at Achaval Ferrer rate this as the best produced in its short history. A lustrous plum-bramble in colour, this is richly textured and opaque. The nose is immediately appetising, fresh and alluring with vibrant primary fruit, summer berries and pepper spice. There are floral notes too, tantalising and energetic and all echoed on the palate, which is perfumed, exuberant and wonderfully pure – a delightful wine.
Robert Parker: Wine Advocate # 180. Dec 2008. Reviewer : Jay Miller. The entry-level 2007 Malbec (a blend of four vineyards) delivers a superb bouquet of pain grille, mineral, floral notes, and black cherry. This leads to an impeccably balanced wine with a sleek palate feel, serious depth, succulent flavors, and a lengthy finish. It will evolve for several years but can be enjoyed now.
Jancis Robinson: Published : 22-Jun-2009. Very dense. Very scented. Burgundian. Lifted and polished. Not exceptional, but lovely drink. Just a little too tart for perfection, but good and transparent.
Wine Spectator: Issue: Nov 15, 2008. Rich, with delicious raspberry and macerated currant fruit enlivened by a strong violet aroma and a piercing mineral streak. The long, dark, juicy finish is very vivid and racy. Drink now through 2009. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 8,000 cases made. –JM.
Stephen Tanzer: Jan/Feb 09. By Stephen Tanzer. Good deep purple-ruby. Complex, pure aromas of black fruits, licorice and spearmint. Juicy, minty and penetrating, with a saline suggestion of soil and little easy sweetness. But this very sexy wine offers lovely inner-mouth perfume and finishes quite long, with fine-grained tannins.
Vinification: Aged for 12 months in French oak.
