Baron de Badassiere

These wines are made exclusively for Liberty Wines at the Caves de Pomérols cooperative in the Languedoc in the South of France, in the Picpoul de Pinet wine region. The name comes from the Badassière vineyard, which is located near the small town of Pomérols. In the 18th century the vineyard belonged to one Baron Charles Emmanuel, who was rumoured to be an illegitimate son of King Louis XV. The wines are made by New Zealand winemaker Alana McGettigan in collaboration with her compatriot, the well-known winemaker Matt Thomson. The climate here is warm and sunny, with coastal breezes helping to retain the freshness and aromatic qualities of the grapes. The winemaking approach is non-interventionist, with minimal, or no skin contact, no malolactic fermentation and no oak. The result are wines that retain the purity and varietal characteristics of the grapes – and they represent great value for money!
