Wine tasting notes

Fresh on the nose with herbaceous aromas of thyme and rosemary but also displays fruity notes such as cherry and blueberry. The wine is complex on the nose, developing aromas of orange and cinnamon. On the palate, it is equally complex, with sweet flavours of vanilla and milk chocolate, from the American oak, standing out. Pleasant, full-bodied with a very long finish.

Winery information

Beronia

Beronia was founded in 1973 by a group of businessmen, friends from the Basque country who would come to La Rioja on holiday. The friends had a great love of food and wine and created their own gastronomic society , or txoko as it is called locally, in the area. They decided, to produce their own wines to enjoy with the local cuisine, specialising in Reserva and Gran Reserva style wines. The winery was integrated into the González Byass Family of Wine group in 1982 and began an expansion into international markets. Today Beronia is one of the most renowned Spanish wineries both in international and domestic markets, producing pure and traditional Rioja wines with their own personality and Beronia style.
Beronia, loyal to its tradition, produces a Classic Line which defines the Beronia Style including three young wines, white Viura, rosé Tempranillo and red Tempranillo. In addition to Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva.

Expert reviews

James Suckling (2016) - 92 pts

This blend of tempranillo, garnacha and mazuelo is very pretty with dark berries and hints of nutmeg and light asphalt. Medium body. Medium, round tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows some finesse and balance. Drink now.

Vinification notes

The grapes for this wine were collected during the beginning of October. Following harvest, the grapes underwent cold maceration for a few days in order to extract aromas and colour but not tannins. Alcoholic fermentation took place at low temperature of less than 26ºC with periodic pumping over. The wine was then aged in mixed oak barrels made of American staves and French tops for 12 months gaining both vanilla notes from the American oak and spice from the French oak. The wine was bottled in September 2017 after cold stabilization and kept for 3 months in bottle before being released.
