The delightful Angela Martin and her husband Andrew McCarthy run the Castro Martin estate, in Rias Baixas, on Spain's Galician coast.
The production of Albarino at the bodega can be traced back to 1887. However, the current cellars were constructed 1982, some five years before the D.O. of Rias Baixas was actually created.
The Castro Martin winery was the very first in the region to be equipped with stainless steel tanks for wine storage, which at that time appeared to many as something of an unnecessary extravagance - this has of course, since become the norm in modern winemaking.
