Wine tasting notes

Set 400 feet above sea level on the Cambria Estate, the Tepusquet Vineyard possesses sandy loam soils that restrict vine vigor and increase concentration. Our vineyard team meticulously farms this site on a vine-by-vine basis. To ensure only ripe, clean berries, the fruit was hand-harvested by Cambria’s experienced vineyard crew. The wine has concentrated dark berry fruit flavors and aromas of earth and mocha. The balanced tannins support the flavors in the wine and contribute to a round smooth texture in the wine. This wine is a classic cool climate Syrah with a balanced acidity and true varietal characters.

Aug 2016 - Jeb Dunnock - Lastly, plums, blueberries, smoked herbs and pepper all show from the rich, medium to full-bodied, lively, nicely fruited and textured 2013 Syrah Tepusquet Vineyard. Aged just over a year in 28% new French oak, it has solid freshness, good purity and fine tannin, and at 22 bucks is a terrific value.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2012)92 pts

Aug 2015 - The 2012 Syrah Tepusquet Vineyard is voluptuous and racy from start to finish. Plum, dark cherry, cloves, smoke and lavender are all super-expressive in a powerful, intense Syrah full of near and medium term appeal. The style is distinctly fruit-driven, with all the elements in the right place.

Vinification Notes

After harvest the wine underwent a seven day cold soak (pre-fermentation) before being aged in 100% French oak barrels
