Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2008)90 to 93 pts

Wine Advocate # 182. Apr 2009. Reviewer : Robert Parker. Yields of 20 hectoliters per hectare, and a harvest that lasted from October 17 to 21 produced a final blend of 80% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Cabernet Franc. The result is an inky/purple wine displaying a backward, but stunning bouquet of red and black fruits, spring flowers, spicy oak, and hints of graphite and crushed rocks. Possessing enormous concentration, it is massive on the attack and mid-palate, but the vintage's crisp, cool acids give it uplift, vibrancy, and an unusual precision. Full-bodied and long, it should age effortlessly for 10-20 years. Drink: 2009 - 2029.

May/Jun 09. By Ian D'Agata. (80% merlot and 10% each cabernets franc and sauvignon; 30 hl/ha; 14.5% alcohol; 70% new oak) Very dark red. Initially austere nose opens to offer graceful rose, redcurrant and red cherry aromas. Also enters the mouth tight and lean, but expands nicely to show pretty redcurrant, coffee, chocolate and menthol flavors. Finishes long if youthfully tannic. This should make a very enjoyable glass of wine. (2008)16.5 pts

Date tasted : 18-May-2009 / Published : 18-May-2009. Deeply coloured. Sweet toasty oak over rich, ripe dark fruit. Grippy but with sufficient fleshiness to balance. Chewy finish but not hard. (JH) .When to Drink : 2012 to 2016.

Wine Spectator (2008)86 to 89 pts

James Lawther MW,, 3 Stars / 16 pts -"Rich, ripe and modern. Plenty of gras. Confit notes. A wine for hedonists. Drink 2011-2016."

Neal Martin (2008)86 to 88 pts

Neal Martin,, 86-88pts - "Wine Journal. May 2009. Reviewer : Neal Martin. A blend of 80% Merlot plus equal percentages of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, cropped at 30hl/ha, this is richer on the nose than Gerard Perse’s other two Cotes de Castillon with kirsch, creme de cassis and black plum. More opulent in style than the others. The palate is well balanced with thick chewy tannins, good acidity, very good weight on the finish. Not quite as elegant as the others Castillons from Perse this year. Tasted March 2009."

Vinification Notes

70% new oak.
