Wine tasting notes

The Château Lafleur-Gazin 2014 seems to show a little greenness on the nose compared to the Plince tasted alongside. Giving it more time to settle, that seems to ebb away but there remaing hints of green bell pepper tincturing the red berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with a pleasant fleshy opening. The tannins feel slightly coarse, although there is respectable depth here and a nicely balanced, lightly spiced finish. It is one of JP Moueix's more rustic offerings, but I find charm here, personality.

Wine Advocate # 146. Apr 2003. Reviewer : Robert Parker.  I am not surprised the 2000 Lafleur has garnered the magical three-digit score. From bottle, the wine boasts a dense plum/purple color in addition to a gorgeous nose of kirsch liqueur intermixed with hints of black truffles, raspberries, and minerals. The tannin is present, but seems to creep up only upon intense inspection. Lafleur is enormously endowed, rich, and full-bodied, with a tremendous chewiness and, at the same time, sensuality. Pure, massive, and rich, with exceptional levels of glycerin and fruit nearly concealing high levels of tannin, and a 60+ second finish, this is a remarkable achievement, and ... just maybe the finest Lafleur since the 1982. Drink: 2012 - 2040.

May/Jun 03. By Stephen Tanzer. Bright ruby-red. Huge, superripe, rather sauvage nose combines roasted berries, grilled meat, roasted nuts, tar and tobacco; showing some distinctly uncivilized notes of great Lafleur vintages of the past. A huge wine with impressive fat and volume. Classic superrich Lafleur notes of cherry liqueur, game, truffle and burning tobacco. A bit disjointed on the back today, with big, somewhat harsh tannins. But this outsized wine displays great power and persistence. (2000)18.5 pts

Published : 10-Dec-2007. Deepest crimson. Wonderfully bright, healthy crimson. Denser but not as immediately expressive as the Pensées 2000. Very rich and thick and dense and impressive. Long. Very perfumed and aromatic after it has been in the glass for a while – more obviously CF than Merlot.  Very grown up and savoury. Pretty robust tannins demand waiting for quite a while. Exceptionally solid… When to Drink : 2012 to 2030.

Issue: Mar 31, 2003. A hand-crafted, exciting wine. Solid as rock. Bright aromas of violets, berries, cherries and lilacs. Full-bodied, with a solid core of fruit and superbly refined, silky tannins. Long finish. This is a remake of the superb 1998. Much better than I found it in barrel. Best after 2013. ?JS.
