Chateau Miraval

This may well be one the most famous rosé wines in the world, because of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie! Miraval is a 17th century estate located in the village of Correns, just north of Brignoles in the Var region of Provence. The estate was once owned by the French jazz pianist Jacques Loussier. He installed a recording studio at the château; Sting, The Rolling Stones, The Cranberries and Pink Floyd are amongst the artists who have recorded there. Pitt and Jolie leased it in 2008 from American winegrower Tom Bove as a summer residence, and finally bought it in 2011 for a reported 41 million pounds. They married in the château's chapel in 2014 and purportedly toasted their nuptials with their own wine. The estate came with mature vineyards lying in a secluded, partially terraced valley, and the couple were determined to continue producing wine, so they extensively renovated the property and collaborated with the Perrin family of Château de Beaucastel fame; their first Jolie, Pitt, Perrin vintage was in 2012, with the 2014 vintage hitting the shelves to rave reviews. They have 50 hectares of terraced vineyards farmed organically [Correns is the first 100% organic village in France], planted with Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, and Rolle grown at an average of 350 metres above sea level on clay and limestone soils. The grapes are hand-picked in the morning before the sun gets up as this retains the acidity in the fruit. This alluring and ethereally pale wine is presented in a distinctive 18th century style bottle.
