Wine tasting notes

This young white wine shows a fragrant nose, with a fruity and elegant palate which owes nothing to oak. The ripe fruit and clean finish produce the perfect balance between richness and acidity on this dry and full-flavoured wine. Lovers of mature White Chateauneuf will be rewarded for keeping this wine for another five years or so - then it will reveal its secondary aromas of honey and white truffle – reminiscent of acacia.

Oct 2015 - Jeb Dunnock - The team at Mont Redon fashioned a beautiful and elegant 2014 Ch?teauneuf du Pape Blanc that?s made from 55% Grenache, 20% Clairette and the rest Bourboulenc and other permitted varieties. Aged six months in stainless steel, it?s medium-bodied, racy, and crisp on the palate with lots of pear, spiced citrus and hints of mint in the bouquet. I?d drink it over the coming couple of years, but this will evolve nicely for longer as well.

Apr 2016 - Josh Raynolds. Bright, chartreuse-hued yellow. Penetrating aromas of fresh citrus and orchard fruits are joined by strong notes of chalky minerals, white flowers and ginger. Juicy and concentrated on the palate, offering vibrant pear skin and Meyer lemon flavors that show superb clarity and thrust. The mineral and floral notes come back strong on the finish, which hangs on with excellent focus and tenacity. (2015)15.5 pts

Tasted Nov 2016 -White-pepper nose. Then racy and herbal. Very tight. As though it had been positively rammed into the bottle early! Not yet very long but it may eventually be allowed to stretch its legs and provide pleasure. Lighter bodied than most of its peers.

July, 2016 - Focused, with chamomile and star fruit notes gilding the edges of the white peach and yellow apple fruit. Light mineral and salted butter hints extend the finish. Shows good purity.

The white at Mont-Redon is a blend of Grenache Blanc and Roussanne. This is full-bodied and round in the mouth, with straighforward, pleasantly fruity notes of pineapple and citrus that nicely balance ripeness and acidity.

Vinification Notes

Their flagship white wine, made from a typical Southern Rhône blend of Grenache Blanc, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Roussanne and Picpoul, from vines on the left bank of the River Rhône between Orange and Avignon, grown on a 2 metre layer of galets over a layer of clay. The grapes were hand-picked and immediately pressed. The juice was then cold settled before fermentation at low temperatures for about four weeks. There is no malolactic fermentation for this wine. It is bottled in the April following the harvest after a time in tank resting on fine lees.
