Wine tasting notes

Pale yellow coloured, with a nose of hints of white peach, peah and white flower blossom. A subtle note of butter on the palate with freshness and brightness, balance and complexity. A persistent and mineral finish.

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2013)93 pts

There is a brightness and focus in the 2013 Locura 1 that makes it quite different from the 2014. It is a Chardonnay from Alto Cachapoal, basically unoaked and matured with lees for one year. It has the classical notes from the grape and superb length, persistence and minerality; the wine is very precise and focused. It does not go through malolactic fermentation. This is mineral and tasty, and superb value for the money.

James Suckling (2013)93 pts

This chardonnay shows lots of sliced pear and apple character with hints of mineral and chalk. Full body, tangy fruit and a long finish. Electrified. Wonderful acidity. From a 1,000 meter high vineyard and made without wood.

Vinification Notes

Work in the winery was relatively minimal. They used experience gained from 12 years working in Burgundy to press whole bunches, giving a delicate wine with emphasis on fruit purity and freshness. Fermentation was slow at relatively cool temperatures. No malolactic fermentation took place but the wine spent 12 months on the fine lees to add further structure and complexity.
