It works well with most cheeses and cold-cuts, including salami. Vegetarians can try it with roast root vegetables or vegetable tarts. Avoid ingredients and preparations that are too subtle, cream sauces and anything that is overly salty or spicy.

Wine Advocate # 161. Oct 2005. Reviewer : Robert Parker. Made from the same blend as the 2001, the 2002 Cabernet/Merlot Mary Kathleen reveals a more saturated deep ruby/purple color, additional tar, black currant, and licorice characteristics, excellent texture, sweeter fruit, more layers, and a purer, richer finish. Drink it over the next decade. Drink 2005 - 2015.

Sep/Oct 05. By Josh Raynolds. Bright, saturated ruby. Tightly wound aromas of bitter cherry, camphor, eucalyptus and menthol; rather strongly herbaceous today. Quite taut in the mouth, with shy flavors of blackberry, mocha, anise and black pepper. A distinctly awkward showing for this historically very reliable bottling.

Issue: Web Only (2005). Strongly minty, with generous currant and berry flavors up front, submerged under a wave of herbal character on the polished finish. Drink now through 2010. 600 cases made. ?HS.
