Wine tasting notes

The 2014 is lively and aromatic with notes of passionfruit, nashi pear, and nettles. On the palate there is intense flavor , with fresh, limey fruit, mouthwatering acidity, and remarkable purity. It is bone dry and unoaked to maintain freshness.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015) - 89 pts

Intensely scented of freshly chopped herbs, lemon juice, green apples and elderflower with a grassy undercurrent, the 2015 Sauvignon Blanc fills the palate with herb and citrus laced flavors and tons of freshness, finishing with great length.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2015) - 90 pts

March 2016 - Bright silver-straw color. Vibrant, mineral-laced lemon/lime and quince aromas are complemented by emerging notes of pineapple and mango. Emphatically fruity, focused and dry, showing a firm stony underpinning to its vibrant citrus and tropical fruit flavors. Powerful yet lithe and almost weightless, this Sauvignon Blanc finishes with excellent thrust and an exotic lingering note of passion fruit.-- Josh Raynolds

JancisRobinson.com (2017) - 16.5 pts

Lightly grassy and green-fruited on the nose but definitely not pungent. More grapefruit than passion fruit and without the sweaty note of excessive thiols that you get on some NZ SBs. Bone dry, fresh and with a fine grip that balances the green-fruited freshness and shows how well the lees effect supports the fruit. Wine Spectator (2016) - 90 pts

Vivid and grassy up front, with plenty of punch to the passion fruit and lime flavors. Intense on the long, juicy finish.

Wine Enthusiast (2016) - 90 pts

This winery has made a nice Sauvignon Blanc as far back as I can remember. The 2016 is a linear, precise example, tightly focused and crisp on the finish. The ample pineapple and grapefruit aromas and flavors are zesty and refreshing.

Decanter (2017) - 92 pts

From high elevation vineyards, where yields are kept down and the grapes are hand-picked. This features crisply-scented lemon and bell pepper aromas with a hint of apricot. It's really well balanced in the mouth, the succulent but saline citrus fruit backed up by richer hints of stone fruit and tangerine, alongside a layer of wafting herbs. Very elegant.

James Halliday (2017) - 96 pts

This is a dignified sauvignon blanc that continuously reveals itself as you move from the bouquet through to the aftertaste of the palate. Initially it has classic restraint, but by the time you pick up the sweet fruit (not sugar) you realise it's the product of a vintage designed for sauvignon blanc.

Wine Front (2017) - 93 pts

It bursts with fruit, it’s clean and pure, it’s not without elegance and/or restraint and yet it gives people what they want. Ripe tropical fruit cut with grapefruit, lime and lemongrass. Life-of-the-party and well-mannered at once. Charmingly uncluttered. A delicious Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc if ever there was one.
