Wine tasting notes

Impressively aromatic and perfumed showing purple fruits, violets and dark cherries. A fragrant, seductive and alluring wine, it is smooth, fleshy, spicy and balanced with a long finish.

Food matching

Pair with twice cooked pork belly with red cabbage, endive and walnut or Sicilian penne with roast tomatoes & eggplant.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2016) - 89 pts

The tarry, olive-scented 2016 Hand Picked Shiraz+Viognier requires a bit of time in the glass to open up and show notes of blackberries and spice. It's full-bodied and firm on the palate, with a finish lined by dusty tannins and hinting at cracked pepper and clove. I suspect this is a bit closed at the moment; give it a splash in a decanter and drink it now through 2028.

James Suckling (2016) - 94 pts

This has attractive spice and complex, fragrant aromas with a stony edge, as well as violets and blueberries. The palate has a delicious core of fresh dark and red berries with a chocolate edge and a very polished tannin texture. Good freshness at the finish, too, with long, blueberry and blackberry flavors. Drink or hold.

James Halliday (2016) - 94 pts

It's just got that extra linger of flavour. It's a smooth river of licorice, black cherry, sweet spice and deli meat characters and when combined with supple texture, fine-grained tannin and floral highlights it marks itself as just a little bit special.
