Wine tasting notes

Almost transparent in colour, this wine shows great purity and refinement. A frangrant bouquet, with flavours of lemon peel and bath salts all carried along by a velvety texture and long fine acid

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (2013) - 16.5 pts

Tasted Jan 2015 - RS 5.3 g/l but tastes dry - not surprising with a pH of 2.85 and TA of 7.58 g/l. Crisp and citrusy bit with a peach-like fulness to balance the acidity. Deep in lime fruit. Great acidity and length. Excellent value for terrific Oz Riesling. (JH)

Wine Spectator (2007) - 89 pts

Issue: Web Only - 2008. Bright and juicy, with vibrant pear and floral flavors playing against lime and spice notes that linger on the light, raw-edged finish.Drink now through 2015. 1,000 cases made. ?HS.

James Halliday (2017) - 94 pts

The apple blossom bouquet is as yet a little reticent, but the palate is well and truly open for business. It is bursting with lime, lemon and Granny Smith apple flavours riding on a surge of crispy, crunchy acidity.

Ray Jordan (2014) - 89 pts

Highly floral and highly drinkable riesling from Larry Cherubino. It has some subtle citrus and light apricot characters on the palate. Fine acid and plenty of persistenve through to the finish.

Miscellaneous (2014)

Sarah Ahmed, winedetective.co.uk - "This entry level Riesling consistently charms. In 2014, it has a pretty floral, lime blossom nose and talcy riff to its crisp green apple and grapefruit. Bone dry. "

Miscellaneous (2014)

Winsor Dobbin, winsorschoiceblogspot.co.uk - "There are a bewildering number of wines and ranges made by Larry Cherubino from all corners of West Australia but they all have two things in common: quality and value for money. Now labelled Great Southern rather than Mount Barker, this riesling can often be found for under $20 - which makes it hard to beat. Very floral with bright citrus flavours on the crisp, dry palate, this is a wine designed for immediate enjoyment and would be a lovely post-work soother, or terrific paired with spicy Thai food. With riesling this good it is a wonder the variety is still struggling for popularity."
