Wine tasting notes

Intensely aromatic on the nose with lemon zest, pink grapefruit, crisp green apple and blossom. A racy acidity and quartz like minerality add drive and freshness to the palate of this perfectly balanced and elegant wine.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2011) - 91 pts

Aug 2012 - Lisa Perrotti-Brown - The 2011 Mt Barker Riesling offers vibrant lime juice and green apple notes with nuances of steel and honeyed lemon. Dry and light-bodied in the mouth, it gives mouthwatering citrus and mineral flavors and a long finish. It should drink best 2013 to 2019+..

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2013) - 90 pts

Jul/Aug '14 by Josh Raynolds - Light yellow. Quinine, lemon pith, pear and jasmine on the perfumed nose. Taut and sharply focused, offering vibrant orchard and citrus fruit flavors and a zesty mineral underpinning. Opens up and deepens on the long finish, which features a hint of agave and echoing minerality.

JancisRobinson.com (2013) - 16 pts

Tasted Sep 2015 - Herbal nose. Bone dry. Real tingle factor. Good matching of variety and place! Hint of dill? Very firm finish.

Wine Spectator (2013) - 88 pts

Web Only 2015 - Light and bright, with lively acidity underlining the green apple, mint and lime flavors. A harmonious wine that just needs time to soften around the edges. Best from 2018 through 2025. –HS

Wine Enthusiast (2011) - 90 pts

This impressive offering is crystal-clean and direct, with green apple, lime and petrichor notes that typify Riesling. It’s medium bodied and fully dry, with a long, lime-riddled finish. Drink it over the next decade or so. — J.C. (9/1/2013)

James Halliday (2014) - 95 pts

The heart of this wine comes from 43yo vines on the estate Wyjup Vineyard in Mount Barker. It is a classic style, asking only one thing: patience. A superb wine with a further decade of life in front of it.

Wine Front (2012) - 93+ pts

Plantagenet riesling keeps on keeping on; it’s a remarkably reliable wine. This is pretty impressive. Tight, mostly dry, spicy and intense through the finish. Green apples, spice, lime and a tropical fruit note I can’t quite put my finger on. Cidery aftertaste. Has a (very) gentle whisper of sweetness through the middle but the finish is slatey and dry. Needs some time to relax, but a super wine and pretty darn good value.
