Wine tasting notes

Our Chamonix Chardonnay is released in the first year after the harvest. The wine shows bright straw yellow colours with golden highlights and ample aromas in scents that recall tropical fruits and grapefruit, mingling with hints of oatmeal, caramel and nutmeg. It should reach its prime in about 5 years from release.Medium-bodied with richly complex flavours of fruit. The wine is balanced and supported by a touch of light oak, carrying through tilt to the last sip.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015) - 90 pts

April 2017 - Neal Martin - The 2015 Chardonnay spent 14 months in French oak (30% new) this year. It has an attractive bouquet with citrus fruit, grapefruit, dried honey and a touch of hazelnut, displaying good vigor and intensity. The palate is fresh on the entry with crisp acidity, fine tension with hints of walnut and linseed infusing the light tropical tones, dovetailing into an attractive and quite persistent finish. Enjoy this over the next 5-8 years.

JancisRobinson.com (2013) - 16.5 pts

Tasted Sept 2014 - Correct and sleek, with lots of green fruit. Tight and polished.

Wine Spectator (2014) - 87 pts

A friendly, frankly toasted style, with a warm pie-crust frame around creamed pear and apple flavors. Rounded, easy finish.

Tim Atkin (2016) - 93 pts

The straight Chardonnay from Chamonix is showing more oak than the Reserve at the moment, partly because it didn’t see any concrete eggs. Made with full malolactic, it’s a rich, leesy, concentrated white with notes of butter and crème fraîche and enough acidity for balance and harmony. 2017-21

Tim Atkin (2015) - 93 pts

One of three Chardonnays produced at Chamonix, this comes from exactly the same blocks as the Reserve wine. Smoky, complex and structured, with stony minerality and a creamy, lees-derived mid-palate, this is typical of the estate’s style. Drink: 2016-20
