Aug 2016 - Monica larner - The entry level 2015 Nero d'Avola delivers a terrific presentation and outstanding value for this low price. The wine is crisp and clean with a bright, fruity disposition. It offers dark cherry, tilled earth and crushed pistachio nut. Its easy approach and fresh acidity would pair perfectly with pizza or simple pasta dishes.

Deep ruby-red. Spicy blackberry and licorice on the nose and palate. Lively and sweet, displaying a silky texture and a very appealing floral freshness. Finishes with smooth, fine-grained tannins and decent persistence. This lithe, bright Nero d’Avola wine offers delicious drinking right now. Cusumano’s Terre Siciliane wines, though simple and easygoing, provide terrific value for the money.

This light- to medium-bodied red is balanced and accessible, with light tannins and easy-drinking notes of brambly blackberry and black cherry fruit, fennel seed and fresh-ground black pepper. Drink now.

Blueberry cake and mulberries are the main attraction on the nose here in addition to bark and ivy. Medium to full body, grainy tannins and a fresh, well-rounded finish. Drink now.

The Cusumano family has been making wine for more than 60 years on the southern Italian island of Sicily. Their expertise and craft shows in the glass of this exceptional red wine. Such terrific value! This Italian red wine is made from the Nero d'Avola grape, the iconic red grape of the island of Sicily. Layers of fleshy black (nero) fruit and pepper spice. Pair with grilled meats.

Vinification Notes

Nero d'Avola from Cusumano is made from 100% Nero d'avola grapes harvested in early September. The grapes are picked by hand, separated from the bunches and immediately let to coolmacerate for 2 days at 5 ° C. The fermentation takes place at 26-28 ° C with regular re-circulation. The malolactic fermentation is then conducted in stainless steel tanks and the finalized wine is aged for at least five months of the lees. The wine is then bottled and stored again for some time.
