Wine tasting notes

A brilliant ruby colour, medium bodied with very fine tannins supporting. A wine of thrust and intensity but with soulful, seductive fruit, very refined and pitched on a knife-edge. Ripe enough to deliver sweet and silky Grenachey strawberries, fleshy red cherry fruit and sweet spices, but with a pocked, crisp granitic minerality and subtle saline finish. Long and elegant.

Juicy, firm and delineated but with compelling insinuating sweetness to the candied red fruit, spice and rose petal flavors. As brisk and fresh as the 2014 bottling: wonderfully penetrating, floral Grenache with a rising finish featuring a firm dusting of fine-grained tannins. Sexy, vibrant wine--and just 13.5% alcohol.

March 2018 - Pale ruby with a smudge of brick at the rim. A delicate nose, fluttering tissue-paper leaves of plum confit and satsuma and sous bois and biltong. Sweetness and roundness, but with lift and elegance – more Monet watercolours than big watercolour. Such silky tannins! Incredible finesse for Grenache. Soaring. (TC)

The Sadies’ exceptional Grenache comes from three vineyards - one on clay and two on granite - and is aged in larger oak. Spicy and complex, with wild strawberry flavours, plenty of tannic grip, bright acidity and a long, mineral-edged finish. 2018-24

Vinification Notes

30 – 50% whole bunches are sorted and then used in the bottom of an open tank. The rest of the grapes are all sorted, destemmed but not crushed and added to the tank on top of the whole bunches. Maximum healthy pre-ferment cold soak with a daily punch down and CO2 gas coverage are maintained. Spontaneous fermentation occurs in the tank and we allow maximum extended skin contact (approximately 4 weeks in total). Grapes are gently pressed and drained to old French oak barrels for malolactic fermentation and the wine ages from vintage to vintage.
