Winery information
De Loach is unique in that they offer superb value and quality in the mid-price level from California. First established in 1973 by Cecil De Loach, a firefighter from San Francisco, De Loach was purchased by Boisset in 2003 when Jean-Charles Boisset saw the similarities of the Russian River Valley with his native Burgundy and the potential the region held for Pinot Noir.
The appointment of consultant winemaker Greg La Follette (formerly at Flowers on the Sonoma coast) marked the start of a return to their previously excellent form. Winemaker Brian Maloney works alongside Greg in making Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel from their own vineyards and those of similar minded growers. They focus on biodynamic, organic and systainable winemaking practices and De Loach is working towards using their own certified vineyards from the 2010 vintage.
Expert reviews
A really nice wine, showing the generosity and sheer sexiness that Pinot Noir can offer. With a silky mouthfeel, it has expansive flavors of raspberry and cherry jam, orange zest, vanilla, cinnamon and sandalwood. One of the best Pinots on the market at this price, and easy to find, with 20,000 cases produced.
