Jancis Robinson - 16.5 + Points
From a specific plot in Dog Point's vineyards and fermented and aged in 'older French oak barrels'.
This smells like a Coche Dury!  They's really gone the struck-match route with this one so drinkers may love or loathe it. Flavours of lime chews (chewy sweets) on the front palate and then just a trace of spicy oak on the finish. I suspect this will settle down to be rather more glorious and subtle in middle age than in youth. - Jancis Robinson

Wine tasting notes

Straw green. Aromatic white flowers, ripe citrus and minerally sauvignon fruit together with intense yeast character derived from extended lees contact. The full bodied palate has a refined complexity enhanced by intense mineral and citrus flavours.

Winery Information

Dog Point

Dog Point is one of the oldest privately established vineyards in Marlborough with first plantings in the late 1970s. The vineyard is centrally located at the confluence of the smaller brancott and omaka valleys. This location is widely considered to be a very desirable area for grape growing in the southern valleys of Marlborough. The property is sensitively planted to sauvignon blanc, chardonnay and pinot noir. Older well-established vines are situated on free draining silty clay loams. This.. read more

Vinification Notes

A fuller bodied, textural style of Sauvignon Blanc. This single vineyard parcel is situated within the Dog Point Vineyard, using the same low cropping level from vines planted in 1992. Fruit is hand-picked, whole bunch pressed and fermented and aged in older French oak barrels for 18 months. Bottled without fining.
