A dark garnet colour with brown to mauve shades. Complex bouquet associating perfumes of jammy red fruit, fig, peony with a hint of chocolate. Harmonious and deep palate, with a beautiful maturity and dense but fine tannins.

Expert Reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015)87 to 89 pts

Dec 2016 - Neal Martin - The 2015 Beaune 1er Cru Du Château comes from 17 different premier crus that are aged in barrel separately. It is a cuvée that debuted way back in 1907. It has an elegant bouquet that demands a little encouragement in the glass, black cherry intermixed with redcurrant, blood orange and even a smudge of marmalade. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin that lend this a masculine personality, a little hardness that should be addressed after racking, though it needs to develop more persistence on the finish. Not bad overall though.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2015)89 to 91 pts

Bright medium red with ruby tones. Fresh aromas of raspberry, black cherry, minerals, smoke and mocha. Suave and concentrated, conveying a slightly medicinal quality and a gravelly nuance to its intense black cherry and chocolate flavors. This very ripe, smooth wines possesses very good depth and length. The substantial ripe tannins dust the front teeth and build.

Tasted Jan 2014 - 10-13 months in French oak, 20% new. Savoury, spicy cherry fruit. Firm, compact, dry and promising, not yet expressive. Very tight and dry and corseted now. (JH)

A fresh and mildly exotic nose consists mostly of white and yellow orchard fruit that is trimmed in a hint of wood. The concentrated, rich and suave big-bodied flavors manage to retain reasonably good vibrancy on the palate coating finish. This is very 2015 in style and should drink well in short order.

Vinification Notes

Following hand picking in small cases, ruthless sorting of the grapes, total or partial destemming depending on the vintage, and fermentation in small containers, gentle pressing ensures optimal vinification. Depending on the profile of the vintage, vatting lasts 12 to 15 days before maturing is carried out for 10 to 18 months in French oak barrels, with 60 to 85% new barrels.
