Wine tasting notes

Full and firm, with a deep intense colour, with rich and complex aromas of cherries, blackcurrants, animal pelts and truffles. With very firm structure, and excellent balance between the tannins and the inherently rounded nature of these wines makes them full-bodied and solid.

Winery Information

Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret

The Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret wines are outstanding and bear all the hallmarks of piercing perfumes, intensity yet elegance on the palate, and a beguiling tannin structure. One of the most attractive aspects of these wines is the superb use of oak and the way it is balanced with the fruit. Vincent Mongeard and his wife Anne are the current custodians of Domaine Mongeard-Mugneret, which was founded when Vincent?s grandfather and grandmother pooled their vineyard resources in the 1920s. Here the brooding nose is completely different with very earthy and somber wild red berry fruit aromas that are liberally laced with humus and sauvage tones. There is excellent volume and a caressing mouth feel to the fleshy, mineral-infused and solidly complex finish that displays mild rusticity and bit of austerity.

Vinification Notes

The grapes were destalked and underwent a cool prefermentation maceration at 12-14ºC to extract colour and flavours. The must then underwent a cool fermentation on the skins for 3-4 weeks in order to preserve the freshness of the fruit. The wine was aged in 30-40% new French oak barrels.
