Wine tasting notes

Pale gold colour with green hue. A vibrant nose of cut granny-smith apple, citrus, lees derived oatmeal complexity with a touch of malolactic butterscotch character all subtly weaving itself together perhaps reminding us of citrus curd or fresh Citron tart. Very broad and weighty feel in the mouth with a crisp and very long finish. Complex thanks to the winemaking and a little bottle age, a wine well crafted and really quite different! The variety and Escarpment’s particular style with emphasis on richness and complexity has created a drink for those that love an interesting choice when it comes to their wine.

Winery Information

In 1999, Escarpment was established as a joint business venture with famed winemaker Larry McKenna spearheading the operation. The winery is located on terraced land along the banks of the Huangarua River. Overlooking the vineyard are the Aorangi Ranges. Tasted Jan 2015 - Peach, almond. Potent fruit character, modest acid and a touch of honey - very Alsatian. (RH)

A taut lemon-fuelled pinot blanc that has a very impressive linear palate shape. Javelin-like, powerful and fresh. Drink now.

Bright, even straw-yellow colour with light golden hues at the heart, paler edged. The nose is tightly bound with intense and concentrated, piquant aromas of yellow plums melded with yellow stonefruits and savoury nutty elements, unfolding floral and mineral notes. Dry to taste and medium-full bodied, the palate possesses sweet and plush flavours of yellow plums entwined with savoury yellow stonefruits and nutty notes. The fruit richness is enlivened by fresh, lacy acidity, and balanced by fine, dry, grainy phenolic textures that provide structure and line, carrying the wine to a positively weighted, thirst-quenching finish. This is a rich, yellow plum and savoury stonefruited, nutty, dry Pinot Blanc with fresh acidity and positive thirst-quenching structure. Match with seafood and most white meat dishes over the next 4+ years. The sixth release of a Pinot Blanc from the Te Muna Road vineyard. Fully barrel-fermented, partially on skins for 10 days to 13.8% alc. and 0.57 g/L RS.

Vinification Notes

The Kaiserstuhl district of Germany prizes Pinot Blanc for its spicy subtle fruit flavours and its ability to truly reflect its terroir. This is the first Pinot Blanc vintage from the Te Muna Road Vineyard. This is a classic pinot blanc in a dry style , perfect with food and will age gracefully for a number of years.
