Wine tasting notes

This is a very intense and powerful wine. True to its Marlborough origins its flavours are a mix of ripe tropical fruits, citrus and cooler notes of fresh herbs, and pea pod. It is dry and full bodied but a crisp finish provides freshness and length.

The 2017 Sauvignon Blanc is sourced from Marlborough. It offers scents of crushed tomato and celery leaves, passion fruit, grapefruit and hints of ripe nectarine. It's a crisp, medium-bodied version of the grape, reflective of its origins, with a lingering citrus and wet stone finish.

May 2016 - Pale, bright yellow. Fresh stone fruits and mirabelle on the nose, lifted by spices and crushed herbs. Sweet, ripe and dusty on the palate, offering a touch of positive peppery herbaceousness and good density to the tropical fruit flavors. Finishes firm and dry, with good energy and lift. In a cooler style in the context of the vintage. -- Stephen Tanzer

Lemon and ginger notes are bright and juicy, with a whiff of lanolin lingering in the background. Drink now

James Suckling (2017)90 pts

Some impressive flinty, reductive complexity across ripe mango, papaya, lime and nectarine. Decent length here. Drink now. Screw cap.

This wine brings passion fruit, lime and gooseberry tones to the fore, with tongue-tingling acidity that keeps the palate fresh. A classic style that put New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc on the map.

Michael Cooper (2016)4 stars

The 2016 vintage (4*) was grown in the Wairau Valley (75 per cent) and Awatere Valley (25 per cent). Very fresh and punchy, it is a fully dry style (1.7 grams/litre of residual sugar), with ripely herbaceous flavours, finely balanced and rich.

Vinification Notes

The individual vineyard parcels were harvested and transported to the winery for immediate crushing to capture the freshness of the fruit. Fermentation was conducted at cool temperatures utilising selected yeast strains. Post fermentation the wines were left on lees to gain richness and complexity.
