Giovanni Puiatti

Puiatti are part of an Italian wine group called Bertani Domains, their wineries have never followed easy trends, and they aim to deliver authentic wines which reflect the typicity of their region. Puiatti are located in the Friuli region of the north-east of Italy, and have been in the wine industry since 1967. It was Giovanni Puiatti's father Vittorio who developed a winemaking technique for white wines which is known as the Metodo Puiatti, where white grape varieties are fermented and aged in 100% stainless steel. Vittorio wanted to produce pure wines with bright flavours, and this is is of course a common vinification technique these days not just in Italy but world wide - however, it really was once revolutionary! Friuli benefit from a unique microclimate, bordered by Slovenia, Austria and the Adriatic Sea, and so benefit from both maritime and continental climates. This is particularity conducive to the production of aromatic white wines. Puiatti have vineyards in Collio and Isonzo, two of the most important areas of Friuli. Their winery was the first cellar in Friuli to be constructed entirely from stainless steel, concrete and glass. The Puiatti motto is “Save a tree – drink Puiatti”, and no oak whatsoever is used in the production of any of their wines. They take a minimal intervention approach in the vineyard and the cellar to craft wines in the Puiatti's style. These are fresh and elegant with a low alcohol content, and definitely no oak!
