Wine tasting notes

The grand vin chardonnay displays a wonderful slightly straw colour. The nose displays vibrant citrus, lime zest, hints of apple with underlying minerality and vanilla butterscotch. The palate has a fantastic balance, minerality and fruit expression with richness coming through.

It has an understated bouquet with touches of wax resin and dried honey. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry with citric fruit, quite pointed, with a twist of bitter lemon on the finish that would benefit from more length. Fine. Drink now. #204 Dec 2012 - Neal Martin - The 2011 Grand Vin de Chardonnay is raised in 50% new and 50% second use oak. It has a wonderful, oyster shell-scented bouquet with hints of fruits de mer. The palate is very well balanced with pure fresh tangerine and Clementine underpinned with crisp acidity and touches of butterscotch towards the vanilla-infused finish. This is certainly worth trading up from the ?Glass Collection? Chardonnay. Drink now-2018

June 2015 by Stephen Tanzer - Bright straw-yellow with green highlights. Sexy smoky vanillin oak complements ripe peach and pear on the nose, with a high note of limey marmalade providing lift. Distinctly more glyceral than the unoaked Glass Collection bottling, and a touch sweeter too at 2.6 g/l r.s., but harmonious acidity gives clarity to the seamless middle palate. If the unwooded Chardonnay shows pear and ruby grapefruit, this is more lime zest, but both wines share an underlying mineral stoniness from a heavy quartz layer in the soil. Tasted Jan 2015 - Pale greenish gold. Quite broad and very fruity but with attractive finish. Good balance and lively wet-stony finish. Just the job.

Made in 500 litre French oak casks, natural ferment in barrels with a 'blonde' toast, but no battonage, only resting on the lees. Lovely touches of vanilla and gentle buttered toast. The fruit is cool and precise, with citrus aromas and a bit of crunchy green apple. Beautiful palate, fresh lime zest, some juicy melon, but also deliciously juicy and zesty in the finish with enough creaminess and oatmeal richness just to broaden and flesh out the finish a little.

Vinification Notes

The grapes were whole bunch pressing. The juice was transferred to new 500L barrels after a brief settling . It was naturally fermented and then left for 7 months on it lees , total time in barrel was 10 months. .
