May 2017 - Dark red. Musky dark berries, plum, leather and smoke on the nose, with complicating nuances of candied cherry, eucalyptus and tree bark. Supple, sweet and generous, showing lovely spicy complexity to the flavors of red and darker berries, pepper and plum. There's an added silkiness from the vintage that makes this a particularly strong value. Finishes with suave, seamless tannins and striking persistence for its price range.

Wine Spectator (2015)86 pts

Direct, with ripe cherry pie and plum pâte de fruit flavors, lined with subtle vanilla and anise notes and followed by a juicy finish. Shiraz, Grenache, Mourvèdre, Petite Sirah, Cinsault and Carignan.

A terrific South African red wine blend of 58% Shiraz, 12% Grenache, 12% Mouvedre, 8% Petite Sirah, 7% Cinsault and 3% Carignan. Aromas of wild blackberry, graphite, anise, black plum, dark spice and pepper. Great price for this quality. Pair with grilled meats.

Miscellaneous (2016)3.5 stars

Vintage Wine Picks - "This has generous aromas that are soft with plummy, peppery and red cherry notes, along with some meaty and vanillan oak nuances. It's medium-bodied on the dry palate with candied red berry fruit, chocolate oak and resinous flavours with touches of menthol. It has bright and juicy acids, some warmth mid-palate (14% abv), and soft tannins. Finish length is good with earthy-curranty notes. An easy drinking red for current consumption. Score: 87 pts"

Vinification Notes

The grapes were destalked and lightly crushed into stainless steel tanks. Each grape variety and vineyard was fermented separately. The must was inoculatedwith Rhône yeasts and pump-overs were done up to 4 times a day during fermentation. After alcoholic fermentation the wines were racked to tanks andbarrels for malolactic fermentation. The wine was matured in both tanks and barrels prior to blending, stabilization and bottling.
