Wine tasting notes

Bright straw-yellow with lemon-green hues, aromas of white stonefruit, limes and exotic yellow florals. Dry to taste and a full, warm and rounded generous palate. Concentrated flavours of white and yellow peaches, honeydew melons, vanilla, passionfruit and pineapple are complemented by minerality, zesty acidity, and slight oak spice

Stanley Estates

With degrees in horticulture from the University of Bath, Steve Pellett and Bridget Ennals set off, in true intrepid explorer mode, to travel through Africa then back to the UK to work as fruit technologists. However the beauty of Marlborough’s spectacular Awatere Valley captured their hearts, and lead to the creation of Stanley Estate in 2003. Situated at the top of New Zealand’s South Island, under the cool gaze of Mount Tapuae-O-Uenuku (the footprint of the rainbow), the estate takes its name from the ‘Stanley Rover’ in which Steve and Bridget travelled through Africa.

More than ten years on and Stanley Estates have made a big name for themselves, winners of numerous major awards both domestically and internationally, their dedication to, and connection with the land in which they work is obvious, indeed they signed up early to the NZ Sustainable Winegrowing programme, as they saw this as being the basis and philosophy of their vineyard practices. With winemaker, Eveline Fraser at the helm, it is a delight to see all of the team’s hard work acknowledged within the industry and embraced by the wine-loving public worldwide.

Vinification notes

The hand-picked fruit was whole bunch pressed on a gentle cycle, the juice was settled, chilled and racked to old french barriques, and then fermented using the wild yeast strains from the vineyard on the skins. The balance was gently pressed and then transferred to stainless steel tanks, where it went through a controlled fermentation using french yeasts. The wine then spent a good time on lees to add a real depth of flavour and palate weight to the wine. The wine was cross flow filtered and prepared for bottling under screwcap to maintain freshness and quality. Seasoned for 10 months in old french barriques.
