Wine tasting notes

“Just as an apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, a wine cannot be made without a story. My winemaking reflects what I was taught by my family and reflects the passion that characterizes each one of us”. This deep purple hued wine has a beautiful aroma of red dark fruit combined with a touch of mint, layered with chocolate notes. Complex and smooth on the palate with ripe tannins and a long finish.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2015) - 90 pts

Dec 2016 - Luis Gutierrez - The 2015 The Apple Doesn't Fall From The Tree Bonarda was sourced from old vines in the Vistalba zone. It fermented with 20% full clusters in cement vats with neutral yeasts and matured in used French barriques for one year. The nose of the Bonarda jumped out of the glass with unusual minty notes, very balsamic, with hints of eucalyptus, cola, nut and spices. This is the first time I tasted this wine, but he tells me that from the first vintage, 2012, the wine has always had this profile, which he thinks is because of the high altitude. It's quite aromatic and showy, quite lush and juicy. He found this vineyard looking for Malbec in Vistalba. This is completely different. 10,000 bottles produced.

James Suckling (2015) - 92 pts

A very cool bonarda with dark berries, slate and walnuts in terms of aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, light tannins and a dense mouthfeel.

Tim Atkin (2015) - 91 pts

Matías Riccitelli’s Bonarda comes from an old trellised vineyard in Vistalba, an unusual location for a variety that’s usually grown in eastern Mendoza. Plum and damson fruit, with a sprig of mint and smooth tannins. A good introduction to the grape. 2017-20
