Wine tasting notes

This wine has a unique pale silver-pink hue. Aromas of raspberries, cherries and a few secondary whiffs of minerality. A lively mousse, but fine in the mouth, with subtle red berry flavours enlivened by bright acidity. Brisk, yet delicate on the palate, bursting with flavours of freshly crushed berries and hints of oyster shell. Flirtatious and fun, yet elegant and structured, it’s perfect for all seasons and settings.

Food matching

A great, celebratory aperitif wine, rosé Champagnes such as this can also take on food, and cheese-based canapés are a good choice. Michel Roux recommends a match of cheese and ham fritters.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (NV) - 87 pts

eRobertParker.com. Oct 214. Reviewer : Neal Martin. The Non-Vintage Brut Rosé, an equal blend of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, has an attractive pale salmon color. The nose is light but nicely defined with rose petal and melon scents, while the palate is well-balanced with crisp acidity and generous strawberry and red cherry notes toward the finish. Drink now.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (NV) - 88 pts

June 2015 - Very pale orange-copper color. Bright, fresh raspberry and cherry aromas, along with a light leesy nuance. Tastes sweeter than the brut, with strong red berry flavors dominating. A bit weightier and broader but not better. Sweeter and softer on the finish too. - Stephen Tanzer

Decanter (NV) - 90 to 100 pts

This méthode cap classique (South African fizz made in the same way as Champagne) from SA stalwart Graham Beck has a lovely creamy red fruit and apple character, with a rich mousse and brioche finish. It has a vibrant raspberry acidity and a long finish. Great value.

Platter's South African Wine Guide (NV) - 4 stars

John Platter, wineonaplatter.com, 4 Stars (NV) "Fine-textured, affordable new addition to impressive line-up. 55/45 chard, pinot NV. Subtle strawberry shortbread on fine mousse, with fragrant finish."
