Wine tasting notes

Bright yellow colour with green highlights. Dominant fruity bouquet. Fine and persistent bubbles. White flower aromas, honeysuckle, acacia. Fine floral scented taste, brut with a certain subtlety. Very elegant.

Winery information

Bouvet-Ladubay

Established by Etienne Bouvet in 1851, this is the second oldest producer of sparkling wine in Saumur, and like many of the other leading houses they are today based in St-Hilaire-St-Florent. This town, effectively now a suburb of Saumur on the riverbank just downstream from the main town itself, was where Etienne set up his business. Bouvet, born in 1828 to a local vigneron..

Food matching

A fun, cheaper alternative to Champagne for a party or an aperitif, this will take on many of the same foods that good, non-vintage Champagne can take on. Try this with all kinds of fish and seafood, including smoked and raw, and don't be afraid to try it with all kinds of spicy food, such as Indian, Chinese and Thai. Because of its good, clean acidity, it can also take on richer, cheese dishes and dishes containing cream, and Michel Roux suggests deep-fried almond-coated Camembert.

Expert reviews

Wine Enthusiast (NV) - 90 pts

Best Buy - With a high proportion of Chardonnay, this is a ripe, full-bodied and lightly toasty wine. It's rich in the mouth and rounded with the crisp green acidity playing a good supporting role. This bottle shows some maturity, giving a complex aftertaste.
