Wine tasting notes

Broad and creamy fruit on the attack with remarkable vigour and tension through to the finish. Very seductive. Ripe red apples, peaches and white flowers jostle with layers of bright, trembling citrus fruit. Great vibrancy and definition. Classy, stylish fruit with bags of character and intensity.

Expert reviews

JancisRobinson.com (2019) - 16 pts

Very pale. Lots of fun. Juicy, less tense than the varietal Chenins. No single strand; this is clearly a blend and Chenin does not dominate the nose or palate. Wine bar wine? Clean and fresh. No desperate hurry to drink this and there is some persistence but it's the most casual wine made by David & Nadia - Jancis Robinson

Platter's South African Wine Guide (2019) - 4.5 stars

Chenin (47%) leads complex 2019. Skin-contact semillon (13%) plus clairette, viognier, roussanne, marsanne, verdelho & grenache blanc. Spicy, succulent, engaging yet dry & structured. Vivacious & riveting in use of old oak, native yeasts, low sulphur, like all in range - Fiona McDonald.

Tim Atkin (2019) - 94 pts

I did a double take when I realised this was the tenth vintage of Aristargos - 2010 seems like yesterday - but what a great and reliable wine it has become. Chenin-based with 50% Clairette, Semillon, Roussanne, Viognier, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc and Verdelho, it's wonderfully complex and layered, with pear, citrus and herbal notes, a hint of peach and a long, stony finish.' – Tim Atkin MW
