Wine tasting notes

Luscious raisin, honey and green mango fruit on the nose and palate with a wonderfully refreshing sugar and acid balance make this a wine to be enjoyed on its own and with both sweet and savoury desserts.

Winery information

Rustenberg

Rustenberg Estate, founded as long ago as 1682 on the slopes of the Simonsberg Mountain in Stellenbosch, stands proud as one of the true grandees of the South African wine trade. Current owners, the Barlow family, have been at Rustenberg for over 70 years – the longest period any one family has owned the farm. Their family ownership has transformed Rustenberg from a distinguished producer on the local scene to a new era South African standard setter on the international stage.

Vinification notes

This wine has been made using a centuries old process of drying grapes and straw to concentrate flavour. Fully ripened Chenin Blanc and Crouchen Blanc grapes were hand picked at 23 - 23,5 degrees Balling then laid out on straw to dry for 4 - 5 weeks. This allows the grapes to slowly dehydrate, concentrating the natural sugar and flavour of the grapes. These raisined grapes are then gently pressed @ 39 - 42 degrees Balling and the small quantity of sweet juice obtained is inoculated and fermented in old barrels to produce a luscious sweet wine.
