Wine tasting notes

This wine, the result of rigorous grape selection, is only produced in the best years and improves with age. With its years of bottle age, this wine has taken on a medium gold colour in the glass and the nose shows complex development as the primary lychee fruit segues into beeswax and camomile. In the palate there are lush lemons and mouthfilling grapiness, tropical fruit and a hint of smoke.

Expert reviews

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2011) - 90 pts

Aug 2014 - David schildknecht - A Trimbach 2011 Gewurztraminer Reserve delivers pepper, black tea, caraway and clove pungency on the nose and palate along with a firmness of feel and chalky, stony undertone that I would not normally anticipate from this grape much less in this vintage. These characteristics come together for a finish displaying striking cut and vigor, albeit with a tendency toward bitter concentration that some tasters might find slightly excessive. This should be fascinating to follow at table through at least 2022.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2007) - 88 pts

Yellow-straw color. High-pitched, perfumed aromas of lichee, cinnamon and cured meat. More delicate and less fat than the basic bottling, delivering more finesse but less obvious flavor impact in the early going. Still, this is juicy and classic gewurztraminer with a subtle minerality and a bit of finishing tannin. I suspect the mass market will like the regular bottling as much as this one.-- Stephen Tanzer

Wine Spectator (2011) - 91 pts

Nov 2014 - Light- to medium-bodied and juicy, this well-balanced Gewürz in a dry style mixes an accent of lemon confit with flavors of white peach, grapefruit pulp, ground cardamom and ginger. Smoky finish. Drink now through 2024.

James Suckling (2013) - 92 pts

Sept, 2015. Lots of dried stone, sliced apple and peach character. Full body, bright and a fresh finish. Shows an attractive depth of fruit and length. It should be available in the market in 2020.
