Wine tasting notes

Mont Redon purchase grapes from premium growers in the region to make wines under their Reserve label. This is a classic white Côte du Rhône blend, made from a third each of hand-picked Roussanne, Grenache Blanc and Viognier, grown on galets over sandy soil. The grapes are sorted and destemmed at the winery. Fermented at cool temperatures in stainless steel tanks over a three week period, followed by brief ageing in large vats prior to bottling.

Winery information

Chateau Mont Redon

Chateau Mont-Redon's superb terroir, constant pursuit of quality and enviable reputation for excellence rank it among the great crus of Chateauneuf-du-Pape. The vineyard has been in the skilled hands of the Plantin family since 1923, and today Mont-Redon is the largest single-vineyard estate of Chateauneuf-du-Pape and one of only two in the entire appellation supporting plantings of all 18 grape varieties authorized for Chateauneuf-du-Pape.The first mention of the Mont-Redon vineyard, "Mons Retundus," meaning round hill, appears in 1334 in a contract stipulating the vigneron's share of the harvest. By 1856, the vineyard was divided in six parts for purposes of inheritance. In 1923, Henri Plantin acquired some of the original parcels and began to reassemble the vineyard as it now exists: 186 hectares in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, of which 95 hectares are in production, and 35 hectares in Cotes-du-Rhone, with 30 hectares in production.

Vinification notes

Situated on the left bank of the Rhône between Orange and Avignon, the Mont-Redon vineyards feature large, rounded stones known locally as galets. These stones retain some of the intense daytime heat of the southern sun and then slowly disperse it to the vines during the night. The Mistral wind blows away any humidity, ensuring excellent climatic conditions for the cultivation of vines. All grapes are handpicked and pressed using pneumatic presses, and the juice is then clarified by cold sedimentation and a light fining. Fermentation takes place at a low and constant temperature. Bottling takes place after tank aging on the lees as well as aging in old oak barrels.
