Wine tasting notes

Deep crimson purple-red. Fragrant spice nose, combining aromatic red fruits and savoury notes. A flavoursome compote of red and black fruits with a variety of spices. Youthful fine tannins balance the rich fruit intensity. Subtle oak adds to the structure and complexity.

Wine Advocate/Robert Parker (2014) - 92+ pts

Jun 2016 - Reviewer : Lisa Perrotti-Brown. Medium garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Plexus (a Shiraz, Grenache. Mourvèdre blend) is a little youthfully reticent, offering glimpses at black raspberry and mulberry aromas plus licorice, cracked black pepper, earth and lavender. Medium to full-bodied and still very primary in the mouth, it has a great intensity of red and black fruit flavors supported by ripe, rounded tannins and just enough freshness, finishing long and spicy.

Vinous/Antonio Galloni (2014) - 93 pts

Vivid ruby-red. Expansive aromas of ripe red berries, candied flowers and spicecake, complemented by a subtle mineral nuance. Juicy, concentrated and seamless on the palate, offering sweet raspberry, boysenberry and lavender flavors that become tighter and more lively with air. Shows excellent depth as well as vivacity; fine-grained, firming tannins build slowly on a long, floral-driven finish. In the context of high-end Aussie red wines, this one delivers exceptional value. -- Josh Raynolds

JancisRobinson.com (2013) - 17 pts

Tasted Sep 2016 - Sweet baked fruit and a clove spice character that complements it nicely. The blend of varieties works very well here and there is proper length and complexity. Sophisticated, authentic, and very enjoyable. (RH)

Wine Spectator (2014) - 93 pts

A sophisticated, spicy mix of date bread, cherry compote and clove flavors. Plump and velvety, with persistence and harmony on the finish. Shiraz, Grenache and Mourvèdre.

James Suckling (2012) - 94 pts

January, 2015. Duval's regional red, which melds shiraz, grenache and mourvèdre together seamlessly, is a stunning rendition in the 2012 vintage. The Barossan origin is strong in all aspects of the wine, which shows deep blackberries and other red fruits on the nose in addition to some gently earthy and tarry meat accents, hints of nutty oak and a sense of vibrant ripeness. The palate delivers redder than expected fruit flavors. Grenache speaks strong here. Tannins are soft, supple and layered, and the wine occupies every corner of the mouth. Starts bright, builds full, finishes long, fades slow. Drink now.

Wine Enthusiast (2012) - 90 pts

Like all the Duval wines, this is amply structured. Cedar and vanilla notes frame dark fruit flavors in this blend of 51% Shiraz, 30% Grenache and 19% Mourvèdre. Its full bodied, with a long, dusty finish. Drink now–2022. J.C. (10/1/2015)

James Halliday (2014) - 94 pts

A 47/32/21% blend drawn from old vineyards in a number of districts, Krondorf the one constant, fermented with submerged cap (header boards), matured in French hogsheads (10% new). As is appropriate, complex, but largely fruit-driven, with red cherries/berries and plums to the fore, oak and (particularly) tannins taking a back seat.

Wine Front (2014) - 93 pts

Rich, dark and spicy with chocolate nougat and subtle floral notes. Medium bodied, savoury, spicy, fruity and fleshy all at once, textured grainy tannin, balanced acidity, blackberry with some red fruited freshness on a long finish. Feels almost minerally. Tastes great.

Tyson Stelzer (2014) - 94 pts

Glossy, tangy, sumptuous dark berry fruits form an enticing core supported by impressively gauged dark chocolate oak, finely structured, beautifully polished tannins and well integrated acidity. It lingers long with even line. An impressive vintage for Plexus

Huon Hooke (2013) - 91 pts

Medium to deep red colour with a trace of purple. The spicy but subtle bouquet shows some sweet and lightly herbal Grenache and Mataro pepper. The palate is likewise, with some plum and vanilla notes. It’s an elegant, medium bodied red with a measured tannin backbone which dries the finish. Very pleasant drinking already.
