Wine tasting notes

One of Rolf's favourite wines to make due to the challenge of balancing the three varieties in the best way possible. It was blended to taste and style, utilising the body and strength of the Shiraz (64%), the ripe confectionary fruit of the Grenache (19%) and the fine earthy tannins of the old vine Mataro (17%).

Expert reviews

Wine Enthusiast (2015) - 91 pts

Editor's Choice - It's good to see the Rolf Binder wines make a return to the U.S. market, as they typically combine high quality and reasonable prices. This Riesling is a bit atypically fleshy for the region, but that makes it more approachable than many at this stage. Floral notes, pineapple and citrus flavors finish with a hint of chalkiness.

Decanter (2013) - 90 pts

Rolf Heinrich Binder founded this estate in 1955 and today it’s overseen by his son Rolf (who makes the reds) and daughter Christa (whites). From the eastern side of Eden, this is a lovely, blossom- and citrus-infused Riesling, with juicy acidity plus hints of apple and pear.

James Halliday (2016) - 95 pts

A delicate riesling of lime juice and spring water; honey blossom and quince. The wine is of a slate-like texture, dry and balletic; drawn long and taut by juicy, ever-flowing acidity showcasing fine intensity of flavour.

Wine Front (2016) - 93 pts

Floral and spicy, subtle tropical fruit and ripe lemon. Flavoursome with a pleasing limey tang, dusting of powdery texture, some lime leaf and a crunchy lime-laced finish of excellent persistence. Bursting to please.

Tyson Stelzer (2015) - 92 pts

A finely crafted, fragrant riesling of balance and pretty lemon blossom and granny smith apple fruit, with a note of mandarin reflecting ripeness. Purity of sweet, ripe, polished fruit, even acidity and fine minerality linger long and harmonius.
