Wine tasting notes

Soft pink-rosé. On the nose essence of geranium and rose combined with strawberry and cherry. Sweet and nuanced on the nose, with noteworthy tenacity. The wine’s impressive alcohol is balanced by its delicate flavors and light, bright freshness, elegance, and persistence.

Cantele

For three generations, the Cantele family have been making wines in the Salento peninsula of Puglia. Having originally come from northern Italy, Giovanni Battista and his wife Teresa Manara decided to move to Salento and establish a winery in the late 1950s.

Now the whole family is involved and their energy and enthusiasm for what they do is contagious. Planted with 30 hectares of vines, with the primary focus on local and historical varieties such as Primitivo, Negroamaro and Fiano and later successes with international varieties, the area provides ideal growing conditions. Long, sunny days and cooling sea breezes sweeping in from the Adriatic and Ionian seas have led to the production of wines which are rich, ripe and beautifully balanced.

A new winery has been recently built in Guagnano, one of Puglia’s most important wine regions, combining regional architectural traditions with modern technology. The vineyards are located about 100 meters above sea level on limestone, clay and siliceous soil. Classic training system is used in the vineyards, characterised by high density planting. With a total of 20 hectares of vineyards, the Cantele family has great plans for expansion and is already investing in new and exciting plots of land in Salento.

Vinification notes

The grapes are macerated for 12-24 hours in order to extract the correct color from the skins and the classic aromatic notes of Negroamaro. The free-run must is fermented at 14-15° C. in stainless-steel vats where it remains until alcoholic fermentation is completed. The wine is then aged in stainless-steel until bottling.
